Discarded electronics and electronic components "e-waste" are creating a serious problem because of toxic elements involved in their manufacturing. In the vast majority of cases, discarded computers and other electronic devices, such as cell phones, are functional and could be passed on to another individuals or organizations. As more companies, organizations, and individuals find reasons to upgrade their computers and other digital equiptment, the problem of how to safely discard used equipment continues to amplify. Every device dumped into a landfill represents a missed opportunity to provide tools to individuals and organizations who can reuse them.
